Koh Tao Art and Craft Workshop - Sea Glass DIY Bracelets & Keychains

Sea glass is ocean waste from glass bottles, mirrors, and other glass materials. With their sharpness, when they're broken, they become a hopeless waste in the ocean. Day by day, wave by wave, the glass is transformed. What remains are smooth, rounded pieces in shades of green, blue, amber, and clear, quiet treasures shaped entirely by the rhythm of the sea, as beautiful as small pieces of jewelry.

Conservation, we have joined ocean clean-ups many times around Koh Tao. Each clean-up is a reminder of our responsibility to the ocean we love. Along with plastic and other waste, we often collect sea glass, small, colorful fragments carrying stories of both pollution and transformation. Over time, an idea quietly emerged: what if we could give these pieces a new life?

This idea became the Art and Craft Workshop at Baan Talay Resort, a gentle space where creativity, nature, and intention meet. Here, sea glass is no longer waste. It becomes a medium for upcycling, a way to honor the ocean by turning what was once harmful into something meaningful and beautiful.

Creating art is a form of therapy, a soft and grounding retreat from busy minds and fast days. In our Koh Tao Art and Craft Workshop, creativity flows like meditation. Hands move slowly, minds become quiet, and stress begins to dissolve. There is no pressure to be perfect, only an invitation to be present. Much like meditation, this creative process brings peace, balance, and a sense of calm, allowing thoughts to settle as something new takes shape.

Using simple rope weaving techniques, you’ll combine smooth sea glass with colorful beads to create your own handmade bracelet. The slow rhythm of weaving invites you to breathe, focus, and settle into the moment. Each knot becomes intentional, each movement calm and grounding. Whether you are releasing inner chaos or leaning into a sense of peace, this creative process feels much like meditation, quiet, personal, and deeply soothing. No two bracelets are ever the same, just like the ocean that shaped the glass.

For the keychain, we explore rope braiding techniques with room to improvise. You’re encouraged to play with patterns, wrap, hook, and experiment freely. Adding colorful beads and pairing them with your favorite sea glass pieces turns each keychain into a small piece of wearable ocean art. This part of the workshop celebrates creative freedom, letting your hands lead while your mind rests.
